NLIGHT Beta Release of 60 W CS Bar at 808 nm

January 22, 2007

Vancouver, WA  January 22, 2007 – nLIGHT, a leading manufacturer of high-power semiconductor lasers, announces the beta-release of a new 30% fill-factor CS bar rated at 60 W. Available originally at 808 nm, this new product line extends nLIGHT’s nXLT™ technology to a new level. This device will serve a wide variety of applications, and specific wavelengths ranging from 790 to 830 nm can be customized for OEM applications.

By combining nLIGHT’s proprietary facet passivation technology with AuSn solder on an expansion-matched CuW sub-mount, nLIGHT is able to offer a significant increase in brightness over the previous 40 W offering while increasing lifetime in both CW and on/off applications.

“This product is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the CS market by combining both unparalleled brightness and lifetime, both for CW and pulsed applications”, said Rob Martinsen, VP of Product Engineering. “This is just another example of the benefits that our nXLT™ (eXtended Life Technology) brings to the customer.”

Each device will have 19 x 150 µm emitters on a 500 µm spacing, conforming to industry standards. No longer will it be necessary to choose between high fill-factor/ high power, or low fill-factor/lower power bars, and the devices can be integrated with a wide variety of existing micro-optics. Typical operating currents are around 60 A, with a compliance voltage < 2 V, and the output light will be TE polarized. The bars will be mounted on the industry-standard CS package, with no change in emission height (7.95 mm). As an added feature, nLIGHT can include an AR-coated cylinder lens to collimate the fast-axis.
